Mikayla is of Ngarinyman and Yanyuwa descent - tribes who are freshwater and saltwater people based in the Norther Territory. Although both tribes have different customs, she enjoyed growing up in both her mother and father’s country.

As a young adult, she had to leave her community at a young age, for educational purposes, but found inspiration from her culture and traditions in everything she does, which enables her to build on her expertise from her upbringing and the western views she experienced outside of her community, allowing her to walk in both worlds.

Mikayla has worked for FNMA since 2019, starting out as a trainee administration officer, and then up skilled on her expertise through, a project officer role in 2021.

Currently, Mikayla is now expanding her knowledge in the media sector as the Membership & Executive Assistant Support Officer at First Nations Media Australia.
